Kim Michele LaCoste is a St. Louis, Missouri native. She has played various musical instruments, such as the violin, clarinet, oboe, classical guitar, electric bass guitar and acoustic bass. The classical guitar, electric bass and acoustic bass were self-taught. She comes from a musical family: her mother, Leontine LaCoste, was a pianist and her uncle was the late film/television composer-arranger Oliver Nelson.
Ms. LaCoste has performed with various local musicians over the years, as well as national jazz musicians, such as Steve Ross, Eric Comstock, Ed Shaughnessy and Gap Mangione. Led by the late musical director Cornelius (Neal) Tate, she played in bands for musicals at St. Louis’ Black Repertory Theatre for their productions Ain’t Misbehavin’, The Wiz, Bubbling Brown Sugar, Damn Yankees, Eubie, The Late Great Ladies of Blues and Jazz (featuring Sandra Reaves-Phillips) and Five Guys Named Moe.
She has been an honorary member of the Paralyzed Veterans of America since 2004 and has sponsored children through Childfund International since 2009. Her attention to detail and creative processes would later evolve into a love for the written word. She has written novels, a novella and short stories.
